The representation of ethnic and racial topics is one of the categories that focus on cultural studies. This paper aims to explain Hollywood’s approaches to the representation of the black minority during Obama’s presidency. To this end, purposive sampling was employed to select 21 prominent movies about black people from 2009 to 2017 in two stages. They were then studied using a combination of two semiotics models. According to the findings, the illustration of black people in that period included the following categories: 1) critical surveying of history (14 movies); 2) advancing black people’s demands assisted by the white people (10 movies); 3) defeat of black people without any help from the white people (2 movies); 4) black people’s revenge of the white people (2 movies); 5) social realism (7 movies); 6) analysis of problems in the contemporary black community (5 movies); and 7) normalization of black lives besides white lives (2 movies). Overall, the redefinition of black-and-white relations and conflicts in the foregoing categories reflects the consistency between Hollywood and black people’s egalitarian process inspired by the new political opportunity. Although we now witness the denaturalization of traditional stereotypes in the illustration of black people, the semiotics systems of most movies refer to the presence of other views and modern stereotypes.

This paper tries to 1) propose a framework for doing participant observation in Telegram groups and 2) reach a comprehensive perception of users’ actions in these groups based on a case study. While Telegram, as an Instant Messaging App is the most popular one in Iran, no researches have been done about it. Here, I try to prepare an appropriate background for future researches and at a same time study Iranian users’ behavior in this App. Selecting Mack et al. “What to observe” framework as a base, I make it suitable to apply on Telegram groups. To do that, I started using Telegram on November 2014 until March 2016. During this time I observed more than 196 unsystematical groups and on September 2015, selected 43 groups for further study, after that I choose 8 groups for systematic observation and analyzed them from September 26 to October 9, 2015. Finally I suggest the “What to observe” framework consisting of Appearance, Messages and Discussions, Members Roles, Personal Space and Group Traffic.

The growing popularity of satellite channels among Iranian audiences has doubled the necessity of studying the content of these channels. In this regard, few studies have examined satellite channels for kids and the content they offer. The growing popularity of satellite channels among Iranian audiences has increased the necessity of studying the content of these channels- In particular, the children channels which has been barely researched. Regarding this matter, Gem Junior Channel as the most famous satellite channel for broadcasting child’s programs in Persian Language was selected for studying discursive order of desirable feminine identity- as it is the area of dispute among many discourses for setting their meanings in that discursive order. By using analytical capabilities of Laclau and Mouffe's discourse theory three Gem Junior programs (Barbie: Life in the Dream house, Sky Dancers and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated) were studied. In the Barbie animation "Beauty and attractiveness" was recognized as central signifier and discursive signifier of "sociability" was recognized as central signifier in two other programs. As a general conclusion of studying the discourse of this channel, "sociability" turned out to be the central signifier of the discursive order of feminine identity in the studied programs. This is while other peripheral signifiers such as “individualism”, “inter-sexual relations” (free, non-official and friendship-based relationships), Ethical, beauty and attraction (by this definition: free, half nude and body-revealing dresses) and … constitute the discursive system of the network within discursive order of feminine identity. this discourse imagine some others for itself were mostly represented in the form of , unethical, wicked and evil, and inhumane identities and due to absolute Reprehensible of these signifiers, other less evident signifiers such as unsociability, unemotional and etc joined with them. In fact. These discursive bonds are making main Conflict areas in discourse of Gem junior channel.

This paper presents normative theories of the media as a theoretical framework for the relationship between values and media for the recognition of Efaf[1] in human communication, particularly in mass communications. Moreover, the declared policy on the issue of Efaf and Hijab in the national media and the Cinema division of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance were investigated through categorization according to the Islamic standards of Efaf using the grounded theory.
The results emerged from the categorization of Islamic Efaf and self-analysis and comparisons of policies indicate that although the national media policies have focused on this issue in detail, but have not fully considered all the aspects of the Islamic Efaf and policies of the cinema towards this issue have deficiency in many categories. Finally, guidelines for development of efficient and comprehensive strategies are outlined.

" "Environmental journalism" has been considered as one of the new disciplines aimed at raising citizens' awareness and teaching environmental issues in the world language, while the Iranian press still does not have a special environmental page. Increasing awareness and participation of people in environmental protection by journalists is necessary due to the occurrence of environmental crises. Based on Agenda-Setting.T , Giving priority to environmental issues can enhance attention of people, the environmental literacy of citizens and authorities and their contribution to environmental protection. The main question of the present research is that the "professional criteria" of environmental journalism have been respected in the environmental press reports of Iran? In this research, with a quantitative content analysis methodology, 200 environmental reports of four newspapers in Iran, Etemad, East and Shahrvand in 1994, were analyzed based on the global criteria of environmental journalism of Vybek Rogrener and analyzed by 12 variables The findings show that 66.5 percent of the "process-oriented" criteria, 72.5 percent "expressing outcomes", 84 percent of the "opinion of the professors", and 66.5 percent of the "topic relevance to other geographic regions" are not met, and only in 2.5% of the reports use the "map and chart application" to facilitate information. In general, there are significant differences between newspapers in terms of the 12 criteria of environmental journalism.

Cinema, in the time of political confrontation between different parties, has always been the area of disputes and every party, according to its cultural viewpoint, has challenged the position of cinema at the time of its rival administration. What happens in today's political atmosphere in Iran is not the quarrel of two political parties; rather, confrontation of two ideologies or two political discourses challenging each other by defining two cultural systems; one based on guarding revolutionary, religious, and ethical values, and another supporting social and civil rights. In this paper, artistic management of Islamic Republic of Iran has been investigated through explaining cultural-artistic policies of the administrations in 1370s (1990s) and 1380s (2000s). This article is the outcome of a study conducted on political sociology of Iranian cinema in 1370s (1990s) in which the cultural-artistic policies of the government in 1370s (1990s) and 1380s (2000s) are investigated through content analysis and text analysis of movies selected by the government in Fajr movie festivals on the one hand, and the audience of Iranian cinema, on the other. In this study, the role of cultural policy makers and artistic managers in administering these policies are mentioned. The present study indicates that artistic policy makers and managers of the both discourses referred to as "traditional discourse" and "democratic discourse" in this paper, have always made cinema the stage of their discourses and resorted to "people" for justifying their policies. They, in policy making area in cinema sector, consider their own musts and must nots as the musts and must nots of people and regard their own believes as believes of people. Also, whenever they criticize each other's policies, call people to witness their claims and attack each other's policies reasoning that they are not congruent with people believes and values. Policy makers and administrators of both political discourses have never moved toward "cultural union" and have always taken "part" of Iranian society culture into consideration in their artistic-cultural planning. They have been far from "previous experiences", "society expedience" and "prudence", whereas the audiences of Iranian cinema have always welcomed a combination of religious values together with social – political values in the movies.

This study is a mediatorof a case study of the private theater which seeks to explore some of the major socio-economic fields of art economics in Iran. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of people joining the theater community through academic or other routine practices. Despite the theatrical population growth, the infrastructure has not changed much; the facilities of the showrooms are just as low. Since early 1980s, the idea of the privatization of the theater and some of the other theatrical effects of Iran, became the "hegemonic idea",. Many activists accepted this. Governmental theater custodians had a glance to the private sector, to eliminate crisis because of showrooms shortage. Now, more than 20 private theaters have been operating alongside state showrooms in Tehran. Still there are some questions: could this program open a knot of Iran's overwhelming work? How do the activists and "stakeholders" evaluate the experience of the field? The research attempts to answer questions on the basis of revising the views and evaluations of the theater activists, but understanding the "private activity of the theater" as a category of art economics requires an understanding of the more general social relations. The article attempts to analyze the "private theater in Iran" in the context of the socioeconomic transformation of the last two decades of Iran. It shows the reflection of the socioeconomic problem during last two decades. One consequence of this trend is to establish "private showroom" instead of "private theater".

Media technologies have changed the mentality of societies. These changes, along with the rapid changes in technologies, have had different consequences for individuals. The most important of these differences are the differences in the epistemological attitudes of each generation. What is considered as the premise of this research is that the epistemological system of each period is constructable and the main factor for constructing each generation is the media that each generation uses. In other words, the agency of the media in generational change can be referred to as media socialization. In the theoretical literature section of this study, generational theories in sociology and generational studies literature from the perspective of media studies have been used. In order to answer the questions of this study, semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The age range of the interview participants is 15 to 45 years old. To this end, interviews were conducted with 30 people to identify their attitudes and experiences towards generational differences and differences. The research findings identified 4 generations with the titles of “adaptable”, “risky”, “changeable” and “unlimited”. Also, the findings show that in each generation, communication and interactive tools have an effective role in shaping generational epistemology. As we move towards the use of interactive and global media, traditional and customary values fade and people live outside the boundaries and common epistemological order.

One of the major issues about ISIL is that, despite global opposition and all-out military strikes under two, three, or multilateral coalitions against ISIS, how ISIS continues to remain until 2017. In response, this paper introduces a set of components for the sustainability of this group which is divided into two levels: internal and external. At the internal level, “effective discursive factor in ISIS's survival”, “utilization of Social political dissatisfaction”, “economic-financial abilities", "fear and panic" and "propaganda" can be mentioned. At the external level, "the support of international powers", "Efforts to balance the power in the region", "Israel's security and engagement of the resistance front" are estimated as effective indicators for the survival of this group. These variables in a very complex and rational manner have led ISIS to be persevered for many years, in spite of all the efforts of the sovereign powers that tried to suppress it, and impose irreparable damages on the countries of Iraq and Syria and continue to be an international threat. The theoretical framework of this research is political Islam and research methodology is descriptive and analytical. The method of compilation of materials is libraries and documents.

Along with the expansion of the virtual space and mediaization of the cultural space, people's identification has also changed. From a sociological point of view, the analysis of the expression of women's identity in virtual spaces, which have less freedom in traditional "real" situations to express their identity, is particularly important. Because virtual space has provided more capacity for them to create and represent their desirable and ideal identity. In such condition, using a qualitative approach to understand the depth and fluidity of their identification process is more reasonable and frutfull. Therefore, the following article has analyzed the identification process of 16 female students of Yasouj University in cyberspace by a qualitative methodology. The data collection technique was an unstructured and semi-structured interview; and non-random, purposeful and maximum diversity sampling method was used for sampling. The generated data analized by the three stages strategy of open, axial and selective coding. Based on the content of the interviews, the causes, contexts and consequences of these girls' use of virtual space were categorized and analyzed under the ten main categories of "the essence of communication, expressing different aspects of oneself, purposeful use to provide various needs and services, satisfying psychological-physiological desires, filling free time, psychological and skilfull personality weakness, family life disorder, different selves presented in cyberspace, capabilities of cyberspace in modern life and scope of cyberspace damages. On a more abstract level, it can be said that the core category of "virtual space as an echo of the real space and a breeding ground of real-pretend selves”, to some extent, reflects the process of identification of the studied girls in the virtual space which is caused by the two-way effect of the psychological-physiological-social characteristics of the girls and their biocultural-social living conditions in the real space of the society.

The word culture has many different meanings. However, for anthropologists and other behavioral scientists, culture is the full range of learned human behavior patterns and is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Culture is a powerful human tool for survival, but it is a fragile phenomenon. It is constantly changing and easily lost because it exists only in our minds. Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) can play a role in social life of urban societies. EGD embraces many design disciplines including graphic, architectural, interior, landscape, and industrial design, all concerned with the visual aspects of way-finding, communicating identity and information, and shaping the idea of creating experiences that connect people to place. However, the question is how much this role may be quantitatively effective in a given community and contribute to different dimensions and aspects of its culture. The focus of this study is to measure, quantitatively, the effect of using EGD on primary school students’ attitude and behavior with regard to separating waste material. The study enjoys a time-series quasi experimental design. To this end, a primary school in Isfahan was randomly selected from among the girls’ schools. The sample who participated in the study were 230 fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders. After three pretests, the EGD was implemented where the students’ awareness towards separation of waste material was raised. The treatment included educating, informing, and encouraging the use of sorted waste baskets. This was followed by three post-tests. Both pretests and post-tests involved three measures each time a measure of the volume and weight of the waste material was obtained. A questionnaire was also used to study the effectiveness of EGD in improving the participants’ awareness, attitude, and behavior. The questionnaire was developed by experts in the field. Results showed significant difference between the amount of waste material before and after implementation of EGD. The results also showed changes in the participants’ attitude towards handling waste material. Results of the Q also showed improvements in the attitude of the school teachers and students in using waste material sorting baskets.

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of social networks on cultural changes and orientations according to Inglehart's Theory. Accordingly, the research sought to answer the question: Did social networks move the cultural orientations toward Ingelhart's Materialistic values or towards Post-Materialistic values? In the present study, the mixed method (content analysis and survey) was used. In the survey section, students' attitudes towards Inglehart’s Materialistic and Post-Materialistic values were measured in social networks (in 2019). Regarding the content analysis section, the content of social networks in 2019 was measured against Materialistic and Post-Materialistic values considered by Inglehart. Survey results on "user-focused values on social media" showed that 53% of students paid attention to Post-Materialistic values. The content analysis findings also showed that about 54% of the messages generated on the three social networks of Twitter, Telegram and Instagram had Post-Materialistic value. The composition of the research results showed that the content of cyberspace was in line with students' attitudes and most attention was paid to Post-Materialistic values. These findings are consistent with Inglehart's theories and show that the country's cultural course coincides with changes in global culture.
